Name: Sydney Johnson
Where you and your dog live: Charlotte, NC
Your current age: 22
Your age when you got your dog: 20 when I get Keela / 21 when I got Mattis
What do you do?:
I work from home as the Executive Director of a company, blog at madpuplife.com, and I'm a senior in college (graduating this summer!)
Dog’s name: Keela / Mattis
Dog’s age: Keela: 5 / Mattis 1
When I met my husband, he and Keela (a golden retriever) were a package deal. We got Mattis, a maltipoo, in January 2017 from Myrtle Beach, SC to make us double dog parents.
Why did you want a dog?
I had never had the intentions of having a dog, but now I wouldn't change it for the world.
How has having a dog changed your life?
Having two dogs is definitely hard at times, but something I would never want to give up. My dogs are with me 24/7 and have changed my life for the better. They are my best friends, my confidants, and my babies. I am so lucky to be in their presence.
How do/did you deal with having a dog in your twenties, may it be now or previously? What is/was your daily routine? Any hard times? Unique characteristics about your dog?:
Most people say I seem much older than my age, so I am already pretty responsible. But I think having dogs in my twenties has helped me learn new types of responsibilities, and develop better characteristics. I am still very active and social, I just have two built in friends to tag along with me everywhere I go. My daily routine is simple yet effective. We wake up, go for a walk, come inside for a dental treat, and I fill their dog bowl up with food. I then turn the TV on (Mattis hates the quiet) and I open my laptop to start work for the day, whether it be school, blogging, internships, etc. Because I'm a morning person, I get everything I need done before lunch time and then I have the rest of the day to go to the gym and dog park or to any stores (mainly pet stores). I would say the hardest time I ever have is when Mattis hears something and barks constantly or gets sick and throws up. I really have a great life with these two. Both of my dogs are very unique and different. Keela is THE sweetest. She knows how to give hugs and tell people goodbye when we are leaving. Mattis is a momma's boy and can hardly ever leave my side.
What are some of your favorite things to do with your dog?
We go to the dog park every day (unless it's raining) and have a great time playing with a frisbee. I also love taking them to pet stores to buy new treats!
Does anyone help you take care of your dog while at work or school?
During the day my husband works and it's just me and the dogs. If we ever have to go out of town where they cannot go, my in-laws watch them. I am fortunate enough to work from home every day so I consider myself a "stay at home dog mom".
If you are in a relationship, how does your partner feel about your dog?
My husband loves our dogs almost as much as I do! He is the reason I have Keela in my life (#blessed) and it was his idea to get Mattis. We are one happy family!
