Name: Michaela Dylan Podolsky
Where you and your dog live: Brooklyn, NY
Your current age: 27
What do you do? Beauty Blogger
Dog’s name: Jada
Dog’s age: 6 (adopted at 8 weeks)
When my husband Brett and I were in college in Florida, we wanted a dog so badly. He had always wanted a Rottweiler and I loved any big dogs so I was sold! We found Jada at a rescue and fell in love with her the second we met her, and the rest is history!
Why did you want a dog?
I always grew up with dogs, as did Brett. He and I both have an insane obsession with animals- dogs in particular. We both knew that having a home with a dog was the only way we wanted to live. They bring you a joy that is incomparable to anything else. We always say that we will have a home of 10 dogs instead of children. (not totally out of the question)
How do/did you deal with having a dog in your twenties, may it be now or previously? What is/was your daily routine? Any hard times? Unique characteristics about your dog?:
Having a dog in your twenties can have its challenges. When Brett and I first got Jada, we were both in school and working so it was difficult to be with her in the beginning as much as I'd like. (I also am the kind of mother who feels bad leaving her home to go get a manicure). Jada also had a very sensitive stomach which made our day to day life pretty challenging. We tried everything available until we discovered home cooking and all of her symptoms disappeared. At that moment we realized that all of her stomach problems were connected to the highly processed dog food being sold. We looked into the industry and saw its was completely unregulated and we had no dog food companies to trust. That's when Brett built The Farmers Dog, which is a pet health service that makes freshly cooked dog food that is customized for each dog and delivered by subscription. I wish I could put into words how life changing this was not only to Jada, but for us. Everything changed. Her quality of life, all of her health problems disappeared, her energy levels were better, her coat was better, and we saved a fortune in vet bills. We used to take her to the vet constantly and now I can't remember the last time we went to the vet other than her routine checkups. This is a great example of taking an awful situation and turning it into something great. We all want a perfect dog, but sometimes having these issues forces you to learn and grow (and possibly create a career out of it!)
What are some of your favorite things to do with your dog?
EVERYTHING. We literally take Jada everywhere. We also justify staying in on the weekends so we can spend time with her. In the summer we take her hiking, swimming, and to the beach. She loves being outdoors so any chance we get to take her we do!
Does anyone help you take care of your dog while at work or school?
My husband is the co-founder of The Farmers Dog, where Jada is the CIO (Chief Inspirational Officer), so everyday she is busy at work!
