Where you and your dog live(d): Chelmsford, MA currently, but CA & NH over the last two years
Your current age: 27
Your age when you got your dog: 24
What do you do? (work, school, etc.): Culture Coordinator for Black Duck Software
Dog’s name: Luna
Dog’s age: 3
Luna was 8 weeks when I got her from Vinelake Australian Shepherds. I saw her picture on Facebook from the breeder and fell in love. Luna was a mismarked black tri Aussie with a tail... she was an odd ball I couldn't resist. I went to meet her at the breeders house and I melted, she had this little black tail with a white tip that would stick up when she was thinking or on the move and down when she was at rest. Everyone called her the baby panda when she was a puppy because of her markings. Luna was perfectly imperfect and the dog for me. She also turned out to be my parents dogs niece as well! They both get along amazing and love each others company.
Why did you want a dog?
I was moving out and was in love with my parents Aussie, so I wanted my own. There is nothing better after a long day of work to come home to a dog who acts like they haven't seen you in years! I couldn't think of a reason to not get her.
How has having a dog changed your life?
In the best way possible, people say you can't buy happiness but I bought Luna and she brings me so much happiness. I'm a crazy dog mom and so proud of it.
How do/did you deal with having a dog in your twenties, may it be now or previously? What is/was your daily routine? Any hard times?:
I got Luna as a puppy while living with my parents so potty training was easier and someone was already home. When Luna and I lived in Cali, it was much easier with a dog... they allowed dogs at almost every restaurant and most stores. I don't mind leaving her home but it's nice to get to bring her out and have her part of my night out. Currently our only hard part is trying to find a dog friendly apartment, Luna is on the breed restriction list for most places. I wish MA was more dog friendly like other places are. Hopefully it gets there soon.
What are some unique characteristics about your dog?
I think the most unique thing about Luna is her personality, she's so loving and adventurous. Anytime we are driving, she uses her paws like hands to pull mine to her and hold her paw (cutest thing ever). Luna's an adventurous little girl... she's been to Canada to see Niagara Falls, camped in the Rocky Mountains, explored the Utah Arches, and lived the life exploring California with me while we lived there. Luna has driven cross country with me twice now... how many pups can say that?
What are some of your favorite things to do with your dog?
Paddle boarding and the beach... Luna loves riding on the paddle board with me almost as much as she loves running around on the beach. She's an active pup so she comes on all my adventures with me.
Does anyone help you take care of your while at work or school?
My father takes her to work at the golf course so she gets to run around all day.
If you are in a relationship, how does your partner feel about your dog?
Luna is like my kid so I'd expect my partner to love and accept her because she's not going anywhere :)
