How To Create Your Own Custom Socks With Bakdrop

If you're as obsessed with your pup as we are, then you couldn't imagine anything better than super comfy socks with your pup's face on them. If you even know of a few people who would want them too, you can even sell them to your pup's loyal fans.

Bakdrop is a company that believes every sock has its own story and that socks should be created for the soul. Collaborating with Bakdrop was straightforward and we had a great experience working with them. Here's how to create your own custom socks with Bakdrop:

FullSizeRender-1.jpg

Design
Through this link, provide the design team at Bakdrop with any ideas you have for the socks and one or more images of your pup. Bakdrop will email you some potential designs within a few days. At that time, you can make any changes you want. The design team was extremely attentive to all our suggestions. Even when we made changes to the socks, the team did not stop until we were completely satisfied.

IMG_0351.jpeg

Promote
Once you agree on your design, Bakdrop launches the socks on their website for up to two weeks. At this time, you may promote the socks on your instagram, and to friends and family.

Product
If at least 15 socks are sold, the socks are made and shipped out to all the buyers within one month. If 15 socks aren't sold, the socks are not made and all customers are refunded. The great part about this collaboration is that there is absolutely no monetary risk involved. You do not have to invest any money into producing and shipping the socks.

Payment
At the end of the campaign, Bakdrop will pay you a percentage of the profits and that percentage increases if you sell more socks. You can also choose to donate the money from the socks to a non-profit organization.

The Socks
The socks are one size fits all. They are made out of bamboo and are incredibly soft.

Once you get your shipment, don't forget to rock your socks!

HOWLoween

Ever since getting our pups, halloween has become about the pups. We spend more time planning their costumes than we do our own. Let's be honest, we would rather see a dog in a costume then a human anyway. While it can be fun to dress up your pup, it's important to make sure he or she is comfortable. Here are some tips to keeping your pup comfy this Halloween:

1. Make Sure the Costume Fits
A costume that is too big or too small can be uncomfortable and dangerous for your pup to move around in. Be sure to measure your pup to ensure you order the correct size. If the costume is too big, it may cause your dog to trip or even tug at the excess material.

2. Warmth
Be sure that your pup is not too hot in his or her costume. Remember some of our pups are already wearing a fur coat so the extra layers can make he or she uncomfortable and feel confined.

3. Don't Leave Your Pup Unattended
Never leave any clothing on your pup when he or she is unsupervised. Costumes can become a hazard if your pup decides to turn it into his or her very own chew toy.

4. Make Sure to Read Costume Reviews
Costumes could be made out of harmful or itchy fabric. Make sure you read reviews to see if you are getting what you actually paid for.

PINCAUSE

Pincause has partnered with The Humane Society of The United States' Stop Puppy Mills campaign. For starters, some of you may be wondering what exactly a puppy mill is. Puppy mill owners have turned dog's lives into money. All these owners care about is producing as many puppies as possible and selling them directly to future paw-rents or indirectly to paw-rents by first selling them to pet stores. Unfortunately, the cute puppies you see in the pet store did not have such a cute upbringing. Many of these innocent puppies spent their lives afraid in filthy, small cages. To make matters even worse, the parents of these puppies don't have a way out. The parents will spend their entire lives in the cages, except when they are breeding, and have no hopes of ever finding a fur-ever family.

Sadly, many people are unaware of what a puppy mill is. If you ask a child where do puppies come from, most will say a store. Often, this misconception is not corrected leading to the continued growth of the puppy mill industry. We aren't going to shame you for not knowing or because you didn't adopt your beloved dog from a shelter, at the time, we didn't know either. Your pup is paw-fect no matter what. What we do hope to do is provide education on how you can help stop puppy mills and share our own personal stories regarding puppy mills.

Antoinette's Story

Like many families, growing up, my family was not aware that there was a huge misconception on puppy stores. All we saw was a store filled with PUPPIES, how could that be bad, right? What we didn't pay attention to was the STORE filled with puppies, and how they were treated no different then clothing. We picked out a Maltese, and named him Max. My sisters and I immediately fell in love. But, unfortunately it didn't last long. We only knew Max for two weeks when he started getting ill. He spent a day in the hospital and passed away while he was there. The vet did an autopsy and determined he was from a puppy mill and inbred too many times, causing him to have kidney disease, heart disease, epilepsy and seizures.

My family was able to get our money back, but it definitely was not enough. As someone who has an absolute terrible memory, I remember fourth grade vividly for this reason. I wouldn't go to school for two weeks, and every time my mom finally got me there, I would tell my teacher I "threw up" in the bathroom to be sent home. I know it seems silly but I remember it distinctly and it changed my perspective on puppy stores. I want to share my story so every family doesn't have to go through this pain, and even more, the puppies don't have to go through this pain. Puppies shouldn't have only a chance of a long life in a cage or a short life in a hospital.

Amanda's Story

I decided to get a dog quite spontaneously. Though I had wanted to get a dog for about a year, the actual decision to get Nocci was made overnight. My friend recommended a website that connects future dog owners to breeders. Without researching the website, breeders or location, my boyfriend and I were off. Of course I knew the right thing to do was to adopt a dog, but I was uneducated on the puppy mill industry. I did not know that I was potentially feeding into a horrible business. About a month after getting my fur baby, I started researching the website and the location of the breeder. I found this article and video, and was devastated. The signs began to point to that Nocci was potentially from a puppy mill, not a breeder. At that point, there was nothing I could do except promise to give Nocci the best life possible and educate as many people as possible on what a puppy mill is.

How you can help

Pincause is selling beautiful pins that "symbolize the human/canine fellowship and our responsibility to treat dogs humanely and Stop Puppy Mills." The Puppy Pin is $5 and $2 from each pin will be donated to the HSUS' Stop Puppy Mill Campaign. We will be wearing our Puppy Pins proudly at the Strut Your Mutt Walk in NYC on October 7. Join our team! Here are some others ways you can help stop puppy mills.

FETCH Party

FIESTA TIME! On July 28th, we went to the FETCH's 2nd anniversary party. Fetch is a luxurious boutique located in Huntington, NY. The party was fiesta themed and the store was decorated beautifully. The pups enjoyed meatballs & chicken breast while we humans sipped on sangria. Along with raffles benefiting the the Little Shelter Animal Rescue, there was a caricature artist who made adorable cartoons of the pups. We also did some shopping and got fabulous Big & Little Dogs harnesses & leashes.

Dog Park Etiquette

The dog park is a great place to unwind from a long day of school or work. What's more relaxing than watching pup's play? Bring a book, listen to music, catch up on e-mails or talk to other paw-rents. At the dog park your dog can socialize, play and get all of his or her energy out. If you find your pup destroying things at home, it may mean that he/she is bored and has A LOT of energy.

Since bringing your dog to the dog run can be nerve recking at first, here are our tips to have the best trip:

Puppy Play

To be honest, when I first saw puppies play, I thought they were trying to kill each other. So we're going to tell you what playing should look like, so you don't feel like you are being forced to watch a dog fight featuring your own dog.

Puppies often will pull at each others faces and use their mouth for most of the play. However, you can tell if the wrestling gets out of hand if either dog is crying, is trying to flee, tucking his/her tail, or hiding under the bench.

Cleanliness

  • Don't expect to stay clean, especially in a muddy or sandy park.
  • Take off your dog's harness to avoid it getting dirty.
  • Make sure to watch to see if your dog goes to the bathroom and be sure to pick it up (they usually have bags at the dog park in case you forget or run out!)
  • Bring your own portable dog bowl. The communal water bowls are usually dirty because they are left out 24/7.
  • When you get home, be sure to wipe your dogs paws. Their paws may contain germs, causing them to get sick when they lick their paws.
  • If you are driving to the dog park, bring a towel to lay on the backseat of your car to prevent your seats from getting dirty.
  • If you don't want to touch dirty tennis balls with your hands, check out the Chuckit! Launcher!

Be Vigilant

  • Watch your pup to make sure he/she is not getting into any fights, even if you know your dog isn't likely to start a fight.
  • If your dog starts to hump another dog, pull your dog off by its hind legs to stop him or her from humping.
  • If your dog is possessive over toys, make sure he/she is not playing with any balls. This will help prevent any potential fights. If your dog is possessive, you may not want to bring your own water bowl or treats, as they can be possessive over anything that is "theirs".

Both you and your dog will make friends at the dog park. Be sure to get those digits so you can plan to go at the same time and really tire out those crazy doggos.

Memorial Day Paw-ty

On Saturday, May 27th, we hosted a Memorial Day Themed Paw-ty at Max Bone in SoHo, New York. Nocci and AJ got to meet new pups and play with them in the store. The pups tried dog food from Ollie, a company that makes wholesome human-grade dog food. Ollie customizes the portions based on your dog's activity level, age, and weight. They even deliver the food to your door. As the dogs played, the humans popped champagne. Enjoy the pictures below!

Doggie Fiesta Meetup

The day before Cinco de Mayo Nocci and AJ attended their first Fiesta Meetup! Puppy Parties NYC hosted the event at Tuttles on 2nd Ave.

Everything was pawfect, from the bark-a-ritas to the bowser beer. They handed out party favors at the end, which included treats, poop bags, and more.

Puppy Parties NYC is a full service party planning company for dogs and their owners. We had so much fun at their pawty and cannot wait to attend more of their events!

Doggy Designer

We are obsessed with dressing up our pups in comfortable and adorable apparel. We are always looking for unique designs that highlight our pups' personalities. There's no better way to bring out your dog's one-of-a-kind personality than with a custom outfit.

During this holiday season, we designed matching sweatshirts for our pups and we love them!
